Generate Individual Application Form

This form is for an individual project.

(1) Complete this form and press the Submit button at the bottom to generate a confirmation page. This will have a link to the first page of your application, a PDF which you will save and upload later to your Forms folder.
(2) You will complete additional forms before you upload the complete application. Some of them will require signatures, which can be digital or handwritten on printed copies that get scanned to PDFs.

Deadlines (all details):
The FINAL deadline for ALL projects that need SRC/IRB pre-approval is Nov 21, 2023.
The FINAL deadline for all projects is Jan 19, 2024.

A student may participate in only one project.

What level of Research Advice or Access to Facilities was provided?

RRI: The student research or engineering project was conducted under the guidance of professional research staff from a regulated research institution or a professional research facility, or with the advice and guidance of a professional research scientist or engineer. Grades 9–12 only.
Non-RRI: The student research or engineering project for grades 9–12 was conducted at home, in school, or in the field without guidance from professional research staff of either a regulated research institution or a research facility, and without the advice of a paid mentor. All research or engineering projects conducted by grade 6–8 students. (Note: grade 6–8 projects may not be conducted in the facilities of a regulated research institution.)

The Synopsys Championship accepts both science and engineering projects at all grade levels. Product Testing type projects (where students test and compare similar items using measurable endpoints) are accepted in grades 6–8 only. Demonstration projects (where students explain how something works) and Literature Surveys are not accepted at any grade level.
